Peru Tour 13 Days – 12 Nights


Day 1: Lima
Arrival to Lima and transfer to the hotel. Overnight.

Day 2: Lima – Arequipa
Breakfast and transfer to the airport, flight to Arequipa. Transfer to the hotel. Visit to: San Camilo local market, Plaza de Armas, La Compañía Church and the Santa Catalina Monastery. In the afternoon visit to the Añashuayco ashlars quarries, Carmen Alto view point, Cayma Church and Sabandia windmill. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Arequipa – Canocota – Chivay
Departure very early in the morning to the Colca Valley, arrival to the hotel and trek to Canocota (3 hours), in route we will see the typical birds, the beautiful landscape and the queñua forest. Arrival to Canocota and visit to a local family. Typical lunch (prepared with the food produced in this area). Then the family will show us the different medicinal plants and their customs. Return to Chivay in the car and diner.

Day 4: Chivay – Cruz del Condor- Puno
Breakfast and departure to the Cruz del Condor view point, at this place we can watch the fly of the condors and the canyon. Return to Chivay, lunch and departure to Puno; visit in route to Lagunillas, where we can see the typical birds of this zone. Arrival to Puno and overnight.

Day 5: Uros– Amantaní
Breakfast and transfer to the Puno’s port, then departure by boat to the Uros Island. The Uros (inhabitants) will show us how they build the island. Then we will leave to the Amantani island. Arrival, accommodation with a local family and typical lunch (basic accommodation with no water running). Folk show including the diner.

Day 6: Amantaní – Taquile – Puno
Breakfast and departure by boat to Taquile where we will visit the main square and the ruins located at this island, we will have the opportunity to meet local people. Lunch and departure to Puno. Overnight in Puno.

Day 7: Puno – Cusco
Breakfast and departure to Cusco. During the way we will visit Pukara (first civilization of the Altiplano), then we will arrive to La Raya (natural view point). Lunch in Sicuani and visit to Andahuaylillas (Andean Sistine chapel). Arrival to Cusco and transfer to the hotel.

Day 8: Maras and Moray – Chinchero – Ollantaytambo
Breakfast and visit to Maras (Area located at 60 km. (37 miles) and 7 km (4.3 miles) of Moray, where layers of beige and white salt pants are still used to crystallize salt from water) and Moray (highlights an admirable Inca experimental farm, where a natural depression has been transformed in enormous terraces superimposed in concentric form with a shape of a great coliseum, achieving up to 150 meters in difference of height levels). Transfer to the hotel in Ollantaytambo, accommodation and visit to the Apu Pitusiray – Huatata association located in Chinchero; at this place we will learn more about the ancestral textile techniques. Return to the hotel and overnight.

Day 9: Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Breakfast and transfer to the train station: departure to Aguas Calientes, arrival and transfer to the hotel., Overnight at the hotel

Day 10: Machu Picchu – Cusco
Breakfast and visit to the Machupicchu citadel. Return to Aguas Calientes and departure by train. Transfer to the hotel in Cusco and overnight

Day 11: Cusco – Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast and transfer to the airport. Flight to Puerto Maldonado, arrival and transfer to the lodge by boat. Arrival and accommodation. In the afternoon a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas leads to the 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop you obtain spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. Now and then toucans, parrots or macaws are seen flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you. Dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast and visti to Tres Chimbadas is located at thirty minutes by boat and forty five minutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there you will paddle around the lake in a catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60% of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and horned screamers. Otters are most active from dawn to eight or nine AM. Then we will visit the clay lick located at twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas. From a blind located about twenty meters away you will see dozens of parrots and parakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. Species such as Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headed Parakeet descend at this clay lick. The clay lick is active at dawn, during the late mornings and mid-afternoons. Lunch and ethno botanical tour, a twenty minute boat drive downriver leads you to a trail designed by the staff of the Centro Ñape. The Centro Ñape is a communal organization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them to patients who choose their little clinic. They have produced a trail which explains the different medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants. Diner and night walk for discovering the wildlife.

Day 13: Puerto Maldonado – Lima
Breakfast and transfer to the airport, flight to Lima. Connection with the international flight.
