Toro Muerto Petroglyphs and Pisco Route

Toro Muerto is located in the Arequipa province of Castilla, very close to the Majes River and in an arid environment, Toro Muerto is considered as one of the largest samples of rock art in the world.

It is estimated that there are some 5,000 rocks, known as volcanic tuffs, with engravings of zoomorphic, anthropomorphic and geometric figures, possibly carved between the years 500 AD. C. and 1 300 d. C. using striking, scratching, rubbing, chipping and percussion engraving techniques. A true jewel of pre-Hispanic lithic art in the middle of the desert.

Archaeologists still wonder about its origin; it must have been made 1200 years ago and been realized by the Wari civilization.

Then we will drive to Majes river, where we will taste local cuisine, the river shrimp, the most recognized dishes are chupe de camarones, ceviche, cauche and chicharrón all dishes prepared with shrimps.

After lunch we will go to taste one of the most delicious pisco liquor of Peru in a local winery, the unique and incomparable flavor of the Peruvian Pisco definitely is an mandatory experience if you visit Majes valley

Return to Arequipa at 6:30 PM and transfer to the hotels.
